Secondary ELL

The ELL teacher takes on teaching responsibilities for assigned ELL blocks and for case-management of ELL students. In grade 10-12, teaching ELL blocks includes using BAA course criteria. This role includes developing, assessing, and reporting on AIPs for assigned ELL students. This may include ELL students on outreach. The ELL teacher works collaboratively with content area teachers including coordinating efforts to support student success.

This includes sharing information teachers can use to support ELL students, the Classroom Teacher Planning Tool (AIP addendum), and additional UDL Strategies.

Qualifications
  • Diploma or Master’s in English Language Learning preferred OR at least 3 courses in the area of English Language Learning.
  • Use a strength-based approach and a UDL framework to enable student access to curriculum learning in the classroom environment.
  • Develop and implement AIPs.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, teachers, Education Assistants, and community service providers.
