Southpointe is seeking an energetic, engaging, and collaborative educator to develop and deliver authentic, inquiry-based Performing Arts experiences within the Junior School. While the primary teaching responsibilities of this position may focus on Grades 3–5, the successful candidate must be willing and able to teach Performing Arts across the full Junior School, from Kindergarten through Grade 5, based on the needs of the program and school.
Reporting to the Junior School Principal or designate, the Junior School Performing Arts Teacher will work collaboratively with colleagues to contribute to a cohesive and dynamic Performing Arts program. The position is available immediately, with the start date to be mutually agreed upon by the successful candidate and the school.
Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Deliver an engaging and developmentally appropriate Performing Arts/Music program, with a primary focus on Grades 3–5, while demonstrating the flexibility and ability to teach across the full Kindergarten to Grade 5 continuum as required;
Design learning through an inquiry-based approach aligned with the philosophy and framework of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP);
Balance inquiry, creativity, and student exploration with the explicit teaching of foundational musical skills and concepts;
Develop students’ skills in singing, rhythm, melody, notation, movement, composition, improvisation, instrumental music, and ensemble performance;
Provide progressive opportunities for students to learn and perform on instruments such as the recorder, Dood, Toot, percussion, and other age-appropriate instruments;
Introduce students to music from a variety of cultures, traditions, genres, and contexts;
Create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that encourages students to take creative risks, collaborate, perform, and develop confidence as musicians;
Assess and document student learning using practices consistent with the IB PYP and the school’s approach to assessment;
Co-lead select classes that extend and enrich the Units of Inquiry beyond Performing Arts, supporting transdisciplinary learning and meaningful connections across the curriculum.
Differentiate instruction to support a range of abilities, experiences, interests, and learning needs.
