We have an exciting opportunity for a co‑op/summer student to join the Engineering department. The successful proponent will work in a supportive team with the opportunity to attain a broad range of transportation engineering experience. Work will involve planning and implementation of Vision Zero strategy, active transportation initiatives and neighbourhood servicing plans.
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer, you will be responsible for the following assignments:
- Reviewing highway use permit application and transportation management plans;
- Responding to public inquiries, including problem identification, option evaluation and report preparation;
- Conducting traffic signal and pedestrian crosswalk warrants;
- Undertaking manual traffic and pedestrian counts at intersections including preparing summary reports;
- Compiling information of various transportation assets such as retaining walls, bridges, streetlights, traffic signals etc.;
- Performing a variety of inspections and tasks when needed.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong customer service skills;
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
- Experience with AutoCAD would be an asset;
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an undergraduate program with a focus on civil engineering studies. Previous experience related to municipal engineering would be an asset.
