Job Description
Responsibilities- The Environmental Inspector, under the direction of the Environmental Compliance Officer, is responsible for inspection and documentation that construction works are undertaken in compliance with the Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Management Plans and applicable law.
- Work on active construction sites in and around large and small machinery, collaborating with construction, office and client personnel to ensure environmental protection measures and typical construction activities are followed.
- Work with Construction Team staff to ensure that identified environmental issues are addressed promptly and environmental requirements are met.
- Complete monitoring and inspection reports and upload them to the appropriate storage location.
- Determine the nature of environmental deficiencies and provide recommended actions to ensure compliance and mitigate potential environmental impacts.
- Provide advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or non-compliance issues.
- Investigate environmental incidents and public complaints related to environmental matters, and report findings and recommendations.
- Communicate and share information with various TGP Teams; attend weekly and monthly meetings with Environmental, Design and Construction Teams.
- Support environmental third-party vendors at the project site as needed.
- Supervise, coordinate and report spills and remedial activities.
- Provide Environmental Awareness and Orientation Training through on-site toolbox talks and procedure rollouts; advise project team members on environmental compliance requirements.
- Promote environmental awareness of the EMS and DMCA environmental requirements.
- Support limited night or weekend works as required from time to time.
- Support the development of the monthly Environmental Report;
Works Report;
Groundwater & Dewatering Report; and the Site-Specific Dewatering and Discharge Plan. - Support the development of presentation materials for bi-weekly Environmental Work Group meetings, including presenting materials as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- This is an office (20%) and on-site (80%) based role.
- A minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated working experience in all aspects of environmental monitoring/mitigation during transportation project construction, specifically with respect to work in and around watercourses and in the application and correction of erosion and sedimentation control measures, reporting spills and the containment of effluent and dust during construction, and with projects in the Province of Ontario of a similar scope and complexity to this Project.
- Hold certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CANCISEC), or proven proficiency in observing, inspecting and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
- The ability to liaise with specialty consultants, contractors and Governmental Authorities, demonstrating strong communication skills and confidence interacting with key contacts verbally, in writing and electronically.
- Capable of preparing technical presentations and reports which assimilate a range of data and information sources in a clear and logical manner.
