The Energy and Alternative Resources Engineer will be based in Delta, BC and report to the Assistant Plant Manager with a dotted line to the Alternate Fuels Manager.
Position Overview The role involves managing day‑to‑day alternative fuel and material deliveries, coordinating with suppliers, contractors, and accounting services, and ensuring optimal consumption of alternative fuels and materials. The Engineer will troubleshoot technical issues, maintain operational records, develop health and safety procedures, and support capital investment requests related to alternative fuel systems.
Responsibilities Manage and coordinate alternative fuel and material deliveries and inventory.
Maintain records of raw material and fuel inventory in collaboration with contractors and accounting services.
Identify and resolve bottlenecks and technical issues that limit consumption of alternative fuels and materials.
Collaborate with maintenance and electrical departments to troubleshoot issues, calibrate equipment, and schedule maintenance.
Develop and maintain operational downtime records for alternative fuel systems.
Ensure representative samples of alternative fuels and materials are collected, prepared, tested, and tracked in compliance with specifications.
Organize, operate, and manage trials of alternative fuels and materials and prepare required reports.
Communicate quality, consistency, and onsite activity with suppliers.
Prepare energy, alternative fuel, and material consumption trends and reports.
Develop and implement health and safety procedures related to handling and use of alternative fuels and materials; ensure training of workers and delivery drivers.
Assist in identifying and executing alternate fuel system repairs and improvements during annual shutdowns.
Support preparation of capital investment requests for alternative fuels and materials systems.
Reconcile invoices and deliveries with operational efficiency in mind.
Follow plant and WorkSafeBC Safety Policies, including proper use of Personal Protection Equipment.
Maintain awareness of plant environmental standards and take corrective action for minor problems or report compliance issues.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience and expertise.
Experience in manufacturing, heavy industrial, cement, mining, aggregates, or continuous‑process environments with strong plant operations knowledge.
Proven ability to develop and maintain health, safety, and environmental programs; conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC and applicable regulations.
Strong technical aptitude in advanced troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, process optimization, quality control, and operational performance monitoring.
Experience managing inventories, materials, fuels, budgeting support, reporting, and data analysis with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships across operations, maintenance, accounting, contractors, vendors, and suppliers while leading continuous improvement initiatives.
Highly organized, detail‑oriented, results‑driven; excellent written and verbal communication; strong leadership capabilities; ability to thrive in a fast‑paced 24/7 operating environment.
Work Environment The role requires conducting business at a heavy industrial manufacturing site with exposure to moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, and elevated noise levels.
