Public Safety & Fire Prevention Technician
Public Safety & Fire Prevention Technician position with the Kativik Regional Government (KRG). The Civil Security Department supports emergency preparedness, working with 14 northern villages to strengthen planning, human and physical resources for fire safety and search and rescue operations. Travel to Nunavik is required. This is a permanent position on a rotational schedule.
OverviewThe selected candidate reports to the Civil Security Coordinator and is responsible for developing, promoting, and delivering public safety and fire prevention programs; educating and enforcing fire safety codes and legislation; inspecting and testing fire protection systems in public buildings and major occupancies; conducting fire investigations and maintaining related reports; collaborating with municipal fire brigades to develop intervention plans; contributing to municipal or regional emergency response plans;
providing technical support and training for municipal firefighters; and performing related duties as required.
- Develop, promote, and deliver public safety and fire prevention programs to the communities
- Educate, promote, interpret, and enforce applicable fire safety codes and legislation
- Verify the inspection and testing of fire protection systems in public buildings and major occupancies
- Conduct fire investigations and prepare and maintain related reports
- Elaborate, in collaboration with municipal fire brigades, intervention plans for different buildings as demanded by the Nunavik Fire Safety Cover plan
- Participate in the development of municipal or regional emergency response plans
- Provide technical support and training for municipal firefighters
- Perform any other related duties as required
- Post-secondary education in Fire Prevention (AEC) or IFSAC Pro Board Certifications
- Minimum of two years of related experience
- Ability to interpret building plans and understand construction details
- In-depth knowledge of Building and Fire Codes and relevant computer software
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with commitment to customer service
- Membership in the Quebec Association of Fire Prevention Technicians (ATPIQ) is an asset
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in at least two of Inuktitut, English, and French
- Willingness to travel frequently in Nunavik
- Work schedule and place of work: 6-3 rotation schedule (6 weeks in the Northern Villages, 52.5 hours weekly, then 3 weeks paid leave at 35 hours weekly)
Note: An alternative 4-2 rotation schedule is also used: 4 weeks in the Northern Villages, followed by 2 weeks paid leave (35 hours weekly).

Lodging is paid while working in the northern villages; meals and travel expenses are paid while traveling in Nunavik; group benefits including Simplified Pension Plan; vacation: 20 days/year; statutory holidays: 20 days (including 10 during Christmas holidays)
