Ideal Gear & Machine Works is seeking an experienced Gear Cutting Technician who takes pride in transforming complex drawings into accurate, high-quality components.
This is a hands-on opportunity for a skilled machinist who understands gear geometry, works confidently with specialized equipment, and knows that precision is never negotiable. You will set up and operate gear cutting and grinding machines while collaborating with our production and engineering teams to solve problems, improve processes, and keep demanding work moving.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Set up and operate gear hobbing, shaping, shaving, and grinding equipment.
Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
Determine machining operations, tooling requirements, speeds, feeds, and material allowances.
Select and prepare cutting tools, grinding wheels, and fixtures.
Monitor machine performance, process conditions, and tool wear.
Adjust machine settings and tooling to maintain accurate gear profiles and tight tolerances.
Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, depth gauges, gear gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
Troubleshoot machining issues and perform routine equipment maintenance.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve quality, productivity, and delivery performance.
Maintain a safe, organized, and accountable work environment.
WHAT YOU BRING
Experience in gear cutting, gear grinding, precision machining, or a closely related manufacturing role.
Working knowledge of gear hobbers, gear shapers, gear grinders, and/or CNC machining centres.
Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Knowledge of machining principles, cutting speeds, feeds, tool geometry, and tight-tolerance manufacturing.
Experience using precision measuring and inspection equipment.
Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
Careful attention to detail and pride in producing exceptional work.
Ability to work effectively within a collaborative manufacturing team.
Technical training or certification in machining is preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for extended periods.
Ability to safely lift up to 50 lb.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating machinery and handling components.
Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, lubricants, and metalworking materials.
