The goal of the program is to strengthen protective factors, enhance connection to culture and community, and support overall wellbeing through trust‑building, empowerment, and relationship‑based practice.
OBJECTIVES
Support stronger connections to community through non‑formal, culturally relevant learning
Encourage youth and families to explore leadership roles and recognize their strengths and gifts
Build relationships that provide space to discuss mental health, substance use, wellness, and stabilization
Support individuals in developing life skills, coping skills, and wellbeing practices that promote balance, confidence, and healthy choices
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design and deliver relationship‑based programming that engages individuals who may feel disconnected, including one‑to‑one support or small group activities
Develop programming rooted in a strength-based approach, focusing on resiliency, cultural identity, self‑esteem, and well-being
Assist individuals in identifying their own goals in areas such as:
life skills and daily living skills
leadership and personal development
building self‑esteem and confidence
financial skills
housing support and navigation
education and employment pathways
recreation, wellness, cultural connection, and safety
Support individuals in learning about and/or reconnecting with TFN cultural practices, teachings, and traditions
Develop and facilitate workshops on topics important to youth and families, including wellbeing, life skills, and cultural or community-based content
Build and maintain positive relationships with TFN departments and external service providers to create a strong, coordinated circle of care
Support youth and families in staying engaged with TFN programs and outside services
Provide interim support for individuals who are waiting for other services
Consult with TFN programs, teams, and community partners to share information and coordinate supports following TFN procedures
Participate as a member of the Family Services team, including attending staff meetings and collaborative planning
Stay informed about wellness trends, community needs, social issues, and best practices in supporting youth and families
Maintain respectful, confidential relationships in accordance with TFN values
Prepare reports, maintain accurate files, and track program data to support program development and evaluation
Ensure files meet requirements under the TFN Freedom of Information and Personal Privacy Act and other relevant legislation
Support TFN teams in fostering trusting, non‑judgmental, culturally safe relationships
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors to support the effective and safe operation of the program
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Diploma in Social Work, Addictions/Mental Health, or a related field
Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth and/or families, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This may include lived experience supported by relevant training such as mental health or substance‑use education, Substance Use certificates, or Mental Health First Aid
Experience building rapport and working effectively with Indigenous youth and individuals
Experience advocating with external service providers on behalf of youth and families
Strong understanding of family and social issues affecting Indigenous youth, including the generational impacts of residential schools, and knowledge of First Nation (Coast Salish) cultures and traditions
Ability to develop and facilitate workshops and groups for diverse audiences
Good working knowledge of community resources in Delta, including youth‑specific and Indigenous‑specific services; familiarity with Fraser Health and MCFD is…
