Delta School District seeks to strengthen its multidisciplinary ICY teams by adding an Integrated Child and Youth Clinical Counsellor. The District is a community of 16,000 students and 3,000 staff across 31 schools in Ladner, North Delta, and Tsawwassen. Expectations and Responsibilities
Support the ICY team and served schools to mitigate and address factors that may precipitate mental health and substance‑use challenges for children and youth.
Provide therapeutic counselling to children, youth and families, monitoring progress and facilitating intervention and prevention.
Serve as manager for Youth Peer Support Workers, including:
Recruitment, selection, and hiring of school‑based employees in the portfolio.
Orientation, coaching, training, and mentorship of direct reports.
Employee conduct management, discipline, and disengagement when required.
Attendance management and leave‑of‑absence discussions.
Performance feedback, development of work plans, and staff performance reviews.
Interpretation and compliance with collective agreements, participation in grievance and arbitration processes, and consultation with HR on bargaining initiatives.
Budget management for the portfolio, including staffing budgets.
Liaise between school staff and the ICY team, advocating for the needs of all children and youth (birth‑to‑age 19) and focusing on prevention and early intervention.
Support Youth Peer Support Workers as core ICY team members.
Attend and actively participate in the ICY team meetings.
Supervise Youth Peer Support Workers in peer‑based mentoring and emotional support for youth ages 12‑19, including systems navigation and resource distribution, group facilitation, and encouraging school community membership.
Attend school‑base team meetings and partner/community agency meetings as needed.
Facilitate multidisciplinary, multi‑jurisdictional decision‑making through a consensus‑building process.
Deliver workshops and ongoing training to families, district staff, and community agencies.
Lead counselling groups for children, youth, and families as required.
Cultivate a collegial atmosphere with case supervision and consultation.
Collaborate with school and district counsellors.
Consult with and coordinate support services from external agencies when needed (e.g., community services, RCMP).
Qualifications
Master’s degree in counseling psychology, educational psychology, psychology, or a related field with at least 300 hours of supervised practicum. Preferably, school‑based practicum experience.
Registered Clinical Counsellor (BCACC) or Registered Clinical Social Worker (BCCSW).
Minimum 3‑5 years of clinical counseling experience with families, children, and youth.
Experience in clinical and/or educational interventions with children, adolescents, and families, including crisis intervention.
Experience leading and managing employees: hiring, coaching, mentoring, performance and attendance management, and corrective discipline, preferably in a unionized environment.
Recent training and proven experience in mental health initiatives and suicide prevention.
Demonstrated knowledge of community liaison and partnership building.
In‑depth knowledge of psychosocial development of children and youth.
Ability to act with integrity, accountability, and judgment in the best interests of children, youth, families, and service providers.
Ongoing professional development in counseling, including substance use/addictions, harm reduction, mental health/mental illness, and concurrent or co‑occurring disorders.
Knowledge of population‑specific care for ethno‑culturally diverse and racialized communities, gender‑queer and fluid youth, children/youth with disabilities or diverse abilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, and intellectual disabilities with mental health needs.
Cultural agility and respectful working relationships with Indigenous peoples, informed by Indigenous worldviews and healing approaches.
