The City of Deltona is currently hiring for a full-time, non-exempt, Florida-certified Firefighter/EMT or Firefighter/Paramedic vacancy.
City Overview: Deltona is located along the I-4 corridor between Daytona Beach and Orlando. The city covers roughly 47 square miles with a population around 98,500 and ongoing commercial growth.
Department Overview: Deltona Fire Rescue includes five stations, one logistics station, 84 operations personnel, 16 administrative personnel, multiple ALS apparatus, and more. We also have an Honor Guard and Special Operations Team (LTRT
532).
Additional Hiring Range: FF/EMT $17.16/hr

Position DefinitionThis job/class operates under general supervision and primarily serves as a firefighter/EMS provider. The purpose is to protect life and property within the department’s scope of practice. Duties include fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services as assigned, and related work. Adherence to department policies, procedures, emergency plans, and operations is required.
Essential Functions- If hired as an EMT, must become a certified Volusia County Lead Paramedic within four years from date of hire.
- If hired as an EMT-Paramedic, must become a certified Volusia County Lead Paramedic within twelve months of date of hire.
- Must be a Working Out of Rank Engineer within two years from date of hire (or from date of Firefighter Competency Certification if hired as a Firefighter Trainee).
- Maintain knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and codes pertaining to the Fire Department and assigned subunit.
- Follow directions of the chain of command and written policies during operations, including disaster response.
- Respond to situations to staff and operate fire or EMS equipment within city boundaries or external areas.
- Respond to emergencies with a fire company or rescue unit and provide ALS or BLS medical care as part of the team.
- Assist in mitigation of emergency and non-emergency incidents; overtime may be required during vacancies or events.
- Keep up-to-date with EMS and Fire tasks through training and professional development; some off-shift commitment may be required.
- Conduct station tours; provide public information and maintain professional standards in the community.
- Proactively manage workplace rumors and maintain a positive, collaborative work environment.
- Remove, extract, and rescue persons; recognize acute symptoms; assist in administering life-saving procedures.
- Connect hoses to hydrants, operate extinguishing equipment, and ventilate burning buildings as applicable.
- Perform salvage, equipment maintenance, and routine inspections; report defects.
- Identify hazardous materials and assist with decontamination procedures within qualifications.
- Perform cleaning and grounds maintenance; care for vehicles and equipment.
- Perform other duties as required and provide qualified EMS skills when assigned.
- Assist Engineer with maintenance and adhere to policy and supervisor directions.
Minimum
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma or GED
Working out of Classification (rank) within 24 months from date of hire (If hired as trainee, then from the date of compliance).
Special Certifications and Licenses (meets CBA):- Current Florida State Firefighter Certification
- Current Florida State EMT Certification (Lead Paramedic within 4 years of hire)
- Current Florida State Driver’s License
- Current Basic Life Support CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
- EVOC or CEVO 16-hour Emergency Driving Certification (as classes available)

Current Florida State Paramedic or in local school to become one
