Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist teachers as classroom helpers with preparation of materials, tutoring of individual students, cleaning classrooms, facilitating celebrations, reading to and with individual students and groups, creating and putting up bulletin boards, facilitating classroom projects, and applying conflict management skills with students.
- Work in the library/media center checking books, re-shelving, taking inventory, assisting students in locating books, and organizing and rearranging items.
- Assist with campus beautification projects including yard work, planting, weeding, and designing.
- Provide front office assistance by answering phones, filing (non-confidential), classroom deliveries, and answering questions.
- Assist in ensuring student safety on field trips as chaperones.
- Assist with school and family events such as fundraisers, preparation, decoration, and clean‑up.
- Work with the Parent/Teacher organization in roles such as fundraising, secretary/bookkeeping, leadership, committee work, and achieving school goals.
- Assist with special projects: picture days, book fairs, yearbook sales, plant sales.
- Assist with athletic, fine arts, and other school events as concession personnel, announcers, scorekeepers, timers, ticket sales, etc.
- Assist in the lunchroom and/or on the playground.
- Serve as a guest speaker in the classroom or for the entire school.
- Assist administration in specialized areas of expertise.
- Serve as a member of a booster organization in capacities such as fundraising, chaperoning, event planning, facilitation, student awards, collection of monies, concessions.
- Maintain a positive attitude and help create a conducive learning environment.
- Adhere to the Code of Ethics as outlined in 6.60.9 New Mexico Administrators Code.
- Perform other voluntary jobs as identified by the school.

QualificationsA volunteer is an unpaid, voluntary position that does not include rights of employment or benefits afforded to District employees. Volunteers are called on an as‑needed basis for assistance to the District.
Physical RequirementsSitting, standing, lifting and carrying (up to 50 pounds), reaching, squatting, climbing stairs, kneeling; listening to and observing students; moving texts, furniture, desks, and equipment.
Safety and HealthKnowledge of universal hygiene precautions.
Equipment / Material HandledEducational supplies and materials, including pens, markers, paper, books, whiteboard, desks, chairs, computers, and audio‑visual equipment. Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate all multimedia equipment including current technology. Fax machine, laminator, bookbinders, paper cutters, etc.
Work EnvironmentMust be able to work within various degrees of noise, temperature, and air quality. Responsibilities include both inside and outside assignments. Interruptions of work are routine. Must navigate uneven surfaces. Flexibility and patience are required. After‑hours may be required.
Terms of EmploymentWork hours are established by the school supervisor in consultation with the volunteer’s availability. Duties performed are voluntary with no expectation of compensation.
