Vice Principal Student Wellbeing and Culture

Are you an empathetic, visionary leader passionate about student wellbeing, equity, and inclusion? Do you excel at building strong relationships and leading teams through inspiring, purposeful leadership? The International School of The Hague (ISH) is seeking a full-time Vice Principal (Conrector) Student Wellbeing & Culture to join our Senior Leadership Team. In this pivotal role, you will lead our student support vision across the Secondary School, creating a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every student is known, valued, and empowered to flourish both academically and personally.

    :
    This full-time position is based on 40 hours per week i.e. 1.0 FTE.
  • Salary
    :
    Based on the Dutch Collective Labor Agreement (CAO) for Secondary Education Scale 13: €5,691 - €8,065 pm (gross) for 1.0

    FTE - steps in the scale depend on relevant background and experience.
  • Contract
    :
    This is a 12 month appointment with a view to a permanent contract, if all of the conditions are met.

As Vice Principal (Conrector) Student Wellbeing & Culture, you will work closely with the Principal, fellow Vice Principals (conrectoren), and our dedicated team of Deputy Heads and Student Wellbeing Coordinator. You will bridge high-level strategy with day-to-day operational excellence, driving our wellbeing, behaviour, inclusion, and safeguarding systems forward.

  • Lead, implement, and evaluate the school's student support vision, fostering a deep sense of belonging and community.
  • Line manage and empower key pastoral leaders, including Deputy Heads of School and the Student Wellbeing Coordinator.
  • Chair regular holistic student support leadership meetings to ensure consistent, high-quality care across all year groups.
  • Provide strategic oversight of safeguarding frameworks, ensuring a proactive culture where student welfare is everyone's responsibility.
  • Champion student voice, ensuring our young people actively inform decision-making and school improvement.
  • Drive restorative practices, positive behaviour interventions, and inclusive education strategies across the Secondary School.
  • Serve as an approachable, visible presence for students, staff, and families, building strong bridges between home and school.

  • Professional-level written and verbal fluency in both English and Dutch.
Qualifications & experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Counselling, or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification meeting Dutch Education Authority (DUO) standards for secondary education (ages 11-18).
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of secondary teaching experience alongside 3-5 years in a middle or senior leadership role overseeing student support, wellbeing, safeguarding, or behaviour management.
  • Deep operational expertise in child protection frameworks, inclusive education, attendance strategies, and restorative practices.
