Freelance Senior Electrical Engineer – Maritime Sustainable Propulsion
We’re building a  specialist freelance engineering team  focused on  next-generation renewable propulsion  technologies across a portfolio of maritime projects. At the core of this team, we are looking for a  Freelance Senior Electrical Engineer  to take technical ownership, lead engineering efforts, and support commissioning activities across multiple initiatives.
Project Overview
This role is central to a multi-project program focused on developing and delivering  alternative fuel and electric propulsion systems  for commercial and offshore vessels. You’ll operate in a  senior capacity , guiding a cross-functional group of engineers while remaining actively involved in the technical delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and planning of low-voltage maritime electrical systems
Oversee and support a team of 4–8 freelance and in-house engineers
Act as senior technical contact throughout system development and commissioning
Support system integration and fault resolution both in the workshop and on site
Ensure compliance with marine regulations and project-specific standards
Collaborate with clients and project leads to align delivery with commercial milestones
Requirements
Maritime electrical engineering background , ideally in vessel propulsion systems
An understanding of  alternative fuel technologies  (e.g., battery-electric, hydrogen, hybrid systems)
Proven leadership experience on technical projects, with ability to manage engineering resources
Commissioning support and hands-on troubleshooting ability highly preferred
Willingness to travel for short on-site assignments (project-dependent)
Fluent in English;
Dutch not required
