The Role   Complex chemical plants don't stay safe by accident.
Every day, hundreds of operational decisions, maintenance activities, modifications and inspections determine whether critical safety barriers continue to do exactly what they were designed to do.
As a Process Safety Engineer – Operational Process Safety, you ensure those barriers remain effective throughout the plant's entire lifecycle.
You work at the intersection of Operations, Maintenance, Engineering and HSE. Rather than focusing primarily on hazard studies for new designs, your focus is on safeguarding the integrity of existing installations, ensuring that changes are properly controlled, and making sure critical protection systems continue to perform when they are needed most.
You’ll work on an upper-tier Seveso site where operational discipline isn't just good practice; it's essential.
Your work combines technical expertise with close collaboration across multiple disciplines.
Job Highlights     Own the Management of Change (MoC) process and ensure plant modifications are introduced safely.
Act as the technical expert for ATEX compliance across the site.
Safeguard the performance and reliability of critical protection systems, including SIS and other process safeguarding layers.
Support Operations and Maintenance in maintaining mechanical integrity and asset reliability.
Monitor the health and effectiveness of safety barriers throughout the plant.
Challenge technical modifications from a process safety perspective before implementation.
Contribute to shutdowns, maintenance projects and plant improvements where safety is critical.
Translate legislation and corporate safety standards into practical operational solutions.
Investigate process safety incidents and ensure lessons learned strengthen operational performance.
Help build a strong process safety culture across the organisation.
Experience / Skills     Bachelor's or master’s degree in chemical engineering, Process Engineering or a comparable technical discipline.
Several years of experience in Process Safety within the chemical, petrochemical or Seveso industry.

Experience with Management of Change (MoC) processes.
Knowledge of ATEX legislation and explosion protection.

Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), safeguarding systems or functional safety.
Understanding of mechanical integrity and process equipment reliability.
Familiarity with Dutch process safety legislation and standards applicable to Seveso sites.
Strong analytical skills and the confidence to challenge technical decisions when safety is ellent communication skills in both Dutch (minimum NT2 level B2) and English.
Independent, pragmatic and able to build strong relationships across Operations, Maintenance and Engineering.

What We Offer     Permanent contract from day one.
Attractive salary within scale L (€5,704 – €8,001 gross per month), depending on experience.
Minimum 32-hour working week.
Hybrid working possibilities (up to two days per week where operationally feasible).
13th month's salary & holiday allowance
30 vacation days (full-time) with the option to purchase additional days.
