We define multilevel regulation “as the network of rules, actors, and practices at national, regional, international, and global levels, by placing the ‘new’ non‑State actors in multilevel regulatory processes in the spotlight” (Warwas 2023). Multilevel regulation provides a space where diverse actors collaborate on transitions. This includes those actors who are often excluded from the table where legal and political discussions take place.

Our unique approach to studying and learning about multilevel regulation comes down to what we call a conflict competence. In our research groups, we emphasise that learning about any collaborative frameworks, including the multilevel regulation, needs to be done by learning the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural skills of dispute resolution. We focus on the following four main fields: socially engaged education, justice, sustainability, and AI.

As a junior researcher at the research group Multilevel Regulation, you will:

• Provide support to lector and researchers regarding the research projects, group meetings, and the community building within and outside the group;
• Under the supervision of a lector, take on a role in research projects. For example, projects such as people‑centred law and practice, relational peer mediation, AI, and occasionally other research projects within the group;
• Organise events related to research projects, including organisational support and writing event reports;
• Act as the linking pin between the research group and the Centre of Expertise Global and Inclusive Learning and the PLS Faculty, including making a contribution to providing input to the reports, communication, and profiling of the group within the Centre and the Faculty;
• Connect with and coordinate students affiliated with the research group;
• Have room for your own research initiatives.

For this vacancy, we are looking for a proactive, dynamic and independent junior researcher. You will contribute on research, network analysis, and writing, and you are able to deliver a variety of outputs in the context of research support (e.g., organisation of events, developing research reports).

• Preferably a master’s degree in the social sciences or humanities, or a bachelor’s degree;
• Experience in (practice‑oriented) research, especially in the fields of people‑centred justice, conflict resolution, access to justice, and AI (basic knowledge of AI regulations and practical tools);
• Experience or interest in developing project management skills;
• Experience in organising events and meetings;
• Interest in innovative research methods, including those in educational research;
• A proactive attitude and curiosity regarding research and education;
• A good command of English and Dutch languages, both speaking and in writing.

• A one‑year employment contract (D4) for 16‑24 hours per week (0,4‑0,6 FTE);
• A salary of at least €3.370,00 and up to €5.154,67 (scale
  9) per month for a full‑time workweek;
• 8% vacation allowance;
• Guaranteed end‑of‑year pay of 8,3%;
• An extensive leave arrangement;
• The choice between an NS Business card (2nd class) for your commutes or a kilometer based compensation;
• An opportunity for professional development in research skills and related competencies for ethical undertaking of research projects. This concerns workshops and courses also via The Hague Centre for Teaching and Learning.
