Responsibilities
The Student-Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The Student-Diagnostic Medical Sonographer will be required to undergo a competency training for a period not to exceed 60 days. During this period the student tech will be given 1 on 1 training with a registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.
Upon completion of this competency training and after being signed off by the registered technologist, the student technologist will be responsible for daily operations of the ultrasound department, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, the report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA). Performs duties directly involved with a variety of technical procedures for the demonstration/evaluation of general, obstetrical, vascular, and small parts imaging.
Assists in invasive procedures as needed.
- Must be enrolled in a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program and complete the program within six (6) months
- At least one (1) year of didactic, as well as clinical experience in abdominal, small parts and Ob/Gyn studies.
- Must be either ARDMS Abdominal and/or Ob-Gyn; or ARRT certified in Sonography within six (6) months of graduation. BLS (Basic Life Support) Healthcare Provider course according to RQI program guidelines must be completed during new hire orientation prior to working in a clinical setting. All registries and certifications must be kept current
- Must be capable of making independent decisions, work under stress at times, and have good interpersonal skills.
