Assistant Chief Engineering

Job Description

The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for all maintenance operations, ensuring that the physical condition of the property is maintained according to company operating and safety standards, and optimum guest quality standards. The incumbent manages all engineering operations for the facilities property, including electrical, refrigeration, plumbing, heating/cooling, structural, and grounds care, and directs all vendors and company staff supporting the Engineering Department.

• Manages and organizes a maintenance team to ensure proper maintenance and repair of the building and hotel areas within budget and management norms.
• Plans, schedules, controls, coordinates and participates in maintenance activities.
• Operates the maintenance department, maintaining property condition and upkeep of furniture, fixtures, equipment, installations, systems, and buildings.
• Ensures security and safety norms for equipment and buildings.

• Plans, controls and coordinates maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment (audio visual, M&E, building, A/C systems, electrical distribution, generators, water systems, hotel systems such as fire, kitchen equipment, cold stores, laundry equipment, gas storage and distribution).
• Elaborates and implements maintenance standards.
• Inspects the hotel regularly to check the state of buildings, installations, and equipment.
• Verifies that all equipment is in good working condition; follows up on repairs, spare parts, replacements, or disposal.
• Ensures all repairs and maintenance jobs meet hotel standards and practices.
• Checks cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation of equipment and buildings; recommends and implements improvements.
• Conducts sanitation inspections of the back of the house per hotel standards and procedures.
• Cooperates with Purchasing to locate sources for items, substitute local for imports, and secure best quality and value.
• Controls costs by minimizing property damage and maintaining adequate inventory of tools.
• Prepares and manages maintenance schedules ensuring all areas are covered.
• Follows preventive maintenance schedules consistently.

• Sets up a preventive maintenance program covering all hotel areas.
• Creates and implements a preventive maintenance schedule.
• Maintains an up‑to‑date M&E listing for proper scheduling.
• Directly responsible for hotel safety and fire standards, regular checks, and emergency procedures.
• Collaborates with the project team on preventive maintenance as needed.

• Ensures safe use of fire, gas, and electrical equipment in accordance with Indonesian laws and regulations.
• Maintains fire equipment in working condition.
• Coordinates regular fire drills with the security department.
• Available 24/7 due to critical nature of safety and security responsibilities.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
• Minimum two years relevant experience as Assistant Chief Engineer.
• Hotel operational experience mandatory.
• Knowledge of local engineering regulations required.

• In‑depth knowledge of building systems, maintenance contracts, construction, and local building codes.
• Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills; able to work well under stress.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and lead employees and manage direct‑report processes such as performance management, development, coaching, and feedback.
