Position Overview

The Physician is responsible for providing medical assessments and evaluations, ensuring quality treatment for medical issues, and collaborating effectively with medical, dental, and mental health providers to prevent disease and injury. The Physician provides clinical oversight, consults with on‑site providers, and reports to the HSA and Chief Medical Officer.

Essential Duties
  • Collaborate with the Chief Medical Officer and relevant authorities to manage medical needs at the site; take direction from the HSA and Chief Medical Officer.
  • Provide medical assessments and evaluations to patients.
  • Initiate and supervise treatment for medical issues.
  • Supervise all care given by medical staff.
  • Advise other providers on site to enable best possible treatment for patients.
  • Collaborate with all levels of staff within the facility, including colleagues and facility staff.
  • Make professional recommendations that improve quality of care and patient outcomes.
Minimum Education / Experience Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited medical school with completion of a post‑graduate program in a primary care discipline.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience providing primary care.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience at an administrative clinical level.
  • Active and unencumbered license to practice in the state of operation.

Employment Requirements
  • Maintain all certifications, educational requirements, and licensing for the position.
  • Hold current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Provide current TB test (taken within one year).
  • Adhere to facility policies, procedures, and the Employee Handbook.
  • Willing to assist coworkers and work overtime when required; act as a resource to other coworkers.
  • Maintain confidentiality, dignity, and security of health records and protected health information in compliance with HIPAA.
Security Requirements
  • Complete required security training and orientation on facility safety policies and procedures.
Physical / Mental Requirements
  • Remain stationary and move throughout the facility, including up and down flights of stairs.
  • Position oneself in different spaces efficiently.
  • Convey and discern information in conversation; communicate accurately with patients.
  • Identify and detect objects and assess situations from various distances.
  • Maintain composure in stressful and demanding situations.
  • Transport objects up to 50 pounds frequently.
Work Environment

The work is performed within a correctional facility. Employees are exposed to risk and harm from inmates, including exposure to blood borne pathogens. Employees must adhere to all security rules and regulations to minimize risk of harm to themselves or others.

Other

Employee must comply with all current and future state, federal, and local laws, court orders, administrative directives, and standards of professional organizations such as ACA and NCCHC. Employees must treat all Corr Health team members, correctional personnel, inmates, and third parties with dignity and respect; inappropriate or degrading actions or communications will not be tolerated. Must pass a background check and pre‑employment drug test as applicable.
