Department Summary

The University of North Texas (UNT) College of Music is America’s largest public‑university music program and one of its most respected. UNT offers fully accredited degrees from the bachelor to doctoral levels and is home to the world’s first jazz studies degree program. Position Overview

Teaching:
Recruit, retain, and teach an outstanding enrollment of undergraduate and graduate tuba students. Supervise graduate‑degree requirements, including graduate committees and doctoral projects/documents. Other duties as assigned including, but not limited to coaching tuba‑euphonium ensemble, chamber‑music coaching, tuba pedagogy and literature classes.
Research/creative activities:
Establish/maintain a national/international profile as a performing artist (soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician, etc.).
Service:
Participate fully in academic and professional activities, including service assignments, across the campus and the profession.
Other:
Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned Master's degree in Music with extensive professional performance experience required. Demonstrated success teaching at the college/university level with a proven record of attracting, developing, and retaining outstanding students. Artist‑level performer of solo and chamber repertoire.
Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Preferred Qualifications

Earned doctorate in music strongly preferred. An established record of professional tuba performance experience. Professional experience as a soloist, chamber musician, and/or orchestral musician. Performance expertise across repertoire including and beyond the European canon. Experience and enthusiasm for commissioning/premiering/recording new works for tuba.
