Position: Homeland Security Technical Training Adjunct Instructor (Pool)

Application Pool Notice
Laredo College continuously accepts applications for part-time (adjunct) instructors to create a pool of candidates for each session/semester. Applications will be reviewed and positions will be filled based on department needs. Applications received for this pool will remain active for one year.

Position Requirements
Upon employment, candidate must reside in the state of Texas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Help develop curriculum and ensure the quality of the instructional program. Serve as liaison between college and federal agencies. Train and lead initiatives of non-credit courses and activities. Instructional assignments will be limited to the instructor’s technical subject matter.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop, evaluate, and revise programs, courses, and objectives to ensure instructional and programmatic responsiveness to the occupational and academic needs of students and to ensure instructional quality as demonstrated by students’ achievement of competency-based objectives.
  • Initiate, lead and oversee departmental and college initiatives related to the field of Homeland Security.
  • Prepare and, on the first day of class, distribute syllabi, which inform students about course requirements, grading requirements, testing assignments, absence policy, and other pertinent information for each course assigned.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner to inform students about their progress and to provide opportunities, which will allow students to succeed. Use multiple measures of assessment. Include opportunities for research and outside assignments.
  • Encourage use of support services by students. Collaborate with support services staff to ensure that appropriate information is shared and discussed.
  • Provide appropriate information to Library staff regarding desired discipline materials.
  • Follow the academic calendar and other policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Trustees.
  • Serve as peer mentor when requested.
  • Stay current of changes that occur in discipline. Participate in department initiatives to infuse changes into curriculum. Participate in interdisciplinary discussions, which are directed at improving student learning and evaluating core competencies curriculum.
  • Sponsor or provide assistance with student clubs and organizations.
  • Distribute student evaluation forms on a timely basis.
  • Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
  • Promote the College's programs and curricula, in particular ensuring delivery of diverse modes of instruction to include online and hybrid courses.
  • Follow procedures related to the registration Office, including grade reports and deadlines; attendance record reports; withdrawal deadlines; class changes; and time and room scheduling.
  • Follow proper procedures for requesting textbooks, instructional supplies, and expendable supplies; submit travel and absence reports on a timely basis.
  • Participate in Southern Association accreditation activities; implement Institutional Effectiveness Plan related to academic area.
  • Participate in faculty evaluations as described by the department chair, director and/or the Dean of Workforce Education.
  • Participate in meetings called by the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean of Workforce Education, or department chair/director for the purpose of disseminating information, providing input into the decision-making process, and sharing expertise with colleagues.
  • Respond to requests for information from the Dean of Workforce Education.
  • Participate in college activities, which include but are not limited to orientation, convocation, in-service, graduation, and workshops designed for growth and development.
