Child Development Lead Teacher (Fred Moore Day Nursery School)
Primary purpose:
To work as a member of the Child Care Center team in providing a high level of childcare for the center’s children through a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment that delivers social, emotional, and cognitive learning experiences.
- Minimum age of 18 years
- High School diploma or equivalent
- High moral character and integrity
- Must pass district health standards for position
- Effectively communicate with children, parents, administrators, co‑workers, and board members in writing and verbally.
- Must have a positive attitude
- Create lesson plans that follow curriculum and are developmentally appropriate
- Keep working area clean and organized
- Work indoors and outdoors in conditions that can include heat, cold, and loud constant noise
- Bend, crawl, kneel, sit on the floor and squat with ease
- Lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Engage in frequent, positive interactions with all people.
- Treat all people with respect.
- Model and encourage language development in children through group times, songs, and daily reading.
- Provide equal opportunities for all ethnic groups and both sexes.
- Use positive guidance and discipline techniques.
- Correct and redirect children firmly and calmly.
- Encourage pro‑social behaviors among children.
- Encourage children to talk about feelings and help them deal with anger or sadness.
- Prepare and follow weekly lesson plans that match school‑wide units.
- Make modifications based on the needs of individual students.
- Make observations and assessments for each student.
- Maintain the child’s portfolio.
- Provide a balance of indoor/outdoor, quiet/active, individual/small, and large group activities.
- Arrange the classroom with defined areas and rotating center items/toys.
- Articulate appropriately to the general public the center’s goals and objectives.
- Participate in community activities that foster rapport and mutual respect between the center and the community.
- Seek out, accept, and respond appropriately to feedback from supervisors and co‑workers.
- Use information from evaluations to improve performance.
- Obtain CPR and first aid certification; obtain 20 hours of continuing education each year.
- Attend staff meetings and training as scheduled.
- Adhere promptly to schedule, maintain good attendance, and provide adequate notification for absences (doctor’s note required if absent for two or more days).
- Maintain knowledge of children in care at all times.
- Inform teacher and support staff of incidents/accidents that occurred on that day.
- Write incident/accident reports honestly, detailed, and in a timely manner.
- Keep inventory of classroom materials.
- Keep classroom clean and orderly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Mental Demands: Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); interpret policy, procedures and data; coordinate district functions; maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing and pulling; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds; potential prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions; must be able to safely lift and carry infants to and from the changing table, change the infants’ diaper, administer parents authorized medication, and attend to infants’ needs at the changing table while ensuring the child’s safety and security.
Minimum Starting Pay: $16.35 (depending on experience)
