Position Overview

This position is responsible for combining professional judgment and technical expertise to support the Occupational Safety Program Manager with identifying, analyzing and controlling hazards to ensure the health safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors on the UNT campus. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, indoor air quality monitoring and compliance issues, work noise evaluations, respirator fit testing, mold consulting, ergonomic evaluations, safety programs for industrial and manufacturing environments.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma/GED equivalent and two (2) years experience in Occupational Safety practices involving federal, state, city, and external entities. Substitution of education for experience allowed. Must have current Texas Certified Asbestos Inspector or obtain within six months of employment. Employees in this job may be responsible for conducting research on, working on, or having the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and they must be able to maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; supervisory skills.
  • Ability to substantiate results from reports using spreadsheets and analysis.
  • Working knowledge of building construction and layout and ability to read blueprints, schematic drawings, etc. and determine sites for inspection.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Occupational Safety or equivalent field and 2 years experience in Occupational Safety practices involving federal, state, city, and external entities. Substitution of education for experience allowed. Must have or obtain upon employment current Texas Certified Asbestos Inspector.

Job Duties
  • Oversight of UNT’s campus asbestos program.
  • Conducts indoor air quality assessments proactively and in response to employee and student concerns. Conducts routine HVAC system inspections of campus buildings. Provides mold assessment consultation. Provides written documentation of indoor air quality responses.
  • Conducts respirator fit testing in compliance with the Respiratory Protection Program Plan.
