The Facilities Planning, Design, and Construction (FPDC) team at the University of North Texas seeks a Senior Design Specialist to support high-impact campus transformation projects. The role manages design and construction phases, prepares estimates, coordinates consultants, and ensures compliance with specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Responsibilities- Provide management oversight for all phases (programming, design, construction) of projects, coordinating consultants, contractors, materials, and equipment.
- Prepare estimates, drawings, and specifications for facilities personnel or contract work.
- Work under supervision of the Campus Planning Manager.
- Oversee team including student design assistants; assignments are broad and require creativity.
Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering or related field and four years of professional, related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Excellent communication skills.
- Physical ability to access work areas that may be confined or elevated.
- Proficiency in selected software (e.g., CAD, Revit) may be required.

Job Duties- Manage interior renovation and site projects – ensuring specification compliance, schedule adherence, and budget control.
- Develop estimates, schematic designs, design development, and construction documents.
- Coordinate with UNT departments, ITSS, and facilities maintenance teams.
- Utilize project management software and CAD (AutoCAD/Revit) to produce progress reports and documentation.
- Act as in-house AutoCAD/Revit expert, provide training, and maintain best‑practice manuals.
- Complete duties in a timely, self‑directed manner; uphold the core values of Service, Integrity, and Excellence.
Includes: communication with others, using ladders/stairs/scaffolding, lifting up to 20 lbs, moving about work sites, operating machinery, operating vehicles, performing repetitive motions, and maintaining a primarily seated/standing position.
