Position: Psychologist - Recruitment/Relocation Incentive/EDRP Authorized

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) – a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit the EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval – award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) – is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the application.

Qualifications
  • Citizenship: United States Citizen; non-citizens only if no qualified citizen is available.
  • Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from an APA Accredited program (APA/PCSAS/CPA) completed at the time of degree, with a specialty area consistent with the assignment (clinical psychology, counseling psychology, psychological clinical science, or combinations thereof). Degrees in school psychology are not eligible.
  • Re‑specialization: Inability to meet specialty requirements may be remedied by completion of a re‑specialization program (APA/CPA accredited) and a documented internship in the retrained specialty.
  • Internship: Completion of a professional psychology internship accredited by APA or CPA, or acceptable VHA‑approved internship. Alternatively, board certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology may satisfy the internship requirement.
  • Licensure: Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in one of the U.S. states, territories, or the District of Columbia.
  • Board Certification: Required for non‑licensed psychologists in VHA; must be current and maintained with continuing education.
  • Grandfathering: Veterans previously employed as psychologists before the effective date of this standard automatically meet all qualifications.
  • Experience:
    • GS‑11 – at least one year of experience as a professional psychologist or equivalent.
    • GS‑12 – at least one year of experience at GS‑11 level.
    • GS‑13 – at least two years of experience with one year at GS‑12 level.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
    • Wide range of professional psychological treatments for diverse patient populations.
    • Design and implementation of effective treatment strategies.
    • Application of new clinical procedures.
    • Research activities – team collaboration, data acquisition, documentation.
    • Professional advice and consultation in behavioral health.
    • Clinical research literature knowledge.
  • Preferred Experience: Experience treating veteran population, primary‑care mental health setting, virtual/telemental health modality, psychological assessment, crisis intervention, and case management.
