Position OverviewThe primary purpose of this position is to conduct research in the field of Catalysis Science (Heterogeneous) in the PI, Dr. Linxiao Chen’s group postdoctoral scientist will plan, execute, and analyze experiments involving the synthesis, spectroscopic characterization of heterogeneous catalysts, and catalytic reaction kinetics. The postdoctoral scientist will also instruct and oversee graduate and undergraduate students involved in the research, and contribute to writing proposals and papers.
This position will provide abundant freedom in research directions and topics, under the umbrella of Heterogeneous Catalysis. The postdoctoral scientist is encouraged to propose and pursue original ideas in thermal, photo-, and/or electro-catalysis that are of common interest with the PI. Research topics of interdisciplinary, fundamental, and collaborative nature are encouraged. In addition to the ample resources at UNT, Chen Group can provide broad collaboration opportunities, and frequent access to state-of-the-art capabilities at DOE national laboratories for catalysis studies, such as synchrotron and in-situ electron microscopy.
- Ph.D. in a field related to Heterogeneous Catalysis (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science)
- Research experience in Heterogeneous Catalysis (thermal, photo-, or electro-)
- Ability to conduct doctoral-thesis-level research independently
- Strong interest in the fundamental science of heterogeneous catalysis
- Interest in learning and exploring new areas/techniques outside of the comfortable zone
- Expertise in at least one of the three areas:
1) precise synthesis of well-defined catalytic materials;
2) flow-reactor kinetic analysis;
3) advanced in-situ spectroscopy - Familiarity and interest in spectroscopic techniques for catalyst characterization, particularly synchrotron techniques
- Experience in collaborative research environment
- Strong communication skills
- Plan and execute experiments and data analysis
- Contribute to writing proposals and papers
- Contribute to training and supervision of graduate and undergraduate students
