The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. As Cook III, you perform advanced (senior‑level) technical food production tasks and provide shift leadership and direction during the preparation, seasoning, cooking, assembly, and service of meals for individuals at the State Supported Living Center (SSLC).

You oversee the preparation, cooking, portioning, distributing, and serving of food for regular and modified diets and textures, ensuring compliance with federal and state guidelines.

Essential Job Functions
  • Attend work on a regular basis, possibly on rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Review menus to determine types and quantities of food to be prepared, taking into account specialized diets and textures.
  • Plan, test, and adjust standardized recipes; calculate food requirement estimates based on recipes.
  • Oversee and evaluate ongoing testing of standardized recipes, making necessary changes.
  • Monitor records of food consumption to inform recipe and menu adjustments.
  • Serve as a lead worker providing direction and shift leadership to subordinates in food preparation, sanitation, safety, and personal hygiene standards.
  • Inspect and ensure proper food service, storage, and sanitation of equipment and area.
  • Monitor inventories and food consumption records.
  • Report kitchen equipment issues or supply needs using the designated protocol.
  • Provide shift leadership, guidance, training and direction to subordinates in all areas of food preparation.
  • Make recommendations for improving operating efficiency.
  • Complete other duties as assigned, such as working in the ingredient room, facility canteen, or driving the delivery vehicle.
