Position: Tax Professional (Paralegal)

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

The Tax Professional role will have an accounting background and will be part of the Paralegal Team supporting the Financial Services and Capital Markets (FSCM) business unit. Responsibilities include administering estates, funding post‑death irrevocable trusts, preparing documents, filing estate‑related tax returns, and managing client case files.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Prepare various tax returns including Estate Tax Returns and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns.
  • Maintain financial records of trusts, perform trust accounting, and audit accounts.
  • Maintain G/L accounts, reconcile broker statements, and prepare payables and bank deposits.
  • Obtain and reconcile 1099 and K‑1 statements.
  • Handle irrevocable trust funding and administration post‑death.
  • Serve as an accounting subject‑matter expert, providing guidance and best practices.
  • Maintain close personal contact with clients and financial advisors.
  • Meet the annual billable hour requirement of 1,600 hours.
  • Develop technical proficiency in database use management, electronic research, and file maintenance.
  • Organize and manage files independently or delegate tasks to a business professional and provide supervision.
  • Maintain high attention to detail and quality of work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION‑SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree required; CPA preferred.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Proven success working in a fast‑paced, continually changing environment.
  • Excellent time‑management and prioritization ability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with tax and trust accounting software.
  • Experience with document database programs and/or software.
  • Significant client case‑management experience.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to interact effectively and provide exceptional service internally and externally.
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize workflow and manage projects.
  • Ability to perform effectively with minimal supervision within established deadlines.
  • Ten or more years of Trusts & Estates experience preferred.
  • Two‑year degree requirement (Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate from an ABA‑approved program) may be considered in lieu of formal education.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Employees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. Expected compensation ranges for this position vary by state and jurisdiction:

  • California: $86,000 – $139,000
  • Colorado: $75,000 – $119,000
  • Illinois: $64,000 – $125,000
  • Maryland: $73,000 – $107,000
  • Massachusetts: $85,000 – $130,000
  • Minnesota: $75,000 – $111,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $78,000 – $114,000
  • New York: $66,000 – $125,000
  • Washington: $88,000 – $134,000
  • Washington, D.C.: $94,000 – $138,000

The salary does not include discretionary bonuses. Full‑time employees receive benefits including medical and dental coverage, life insurance, short‑term and long‑term disability insurance, pre‑tax flexible spending accounts, an employee assistance program, paid time off, paid holidays, and a retirement plan after eligibility requirements are met.
