Staff Accountant – American West Construction LLC

A growing heavy/highway contractor specializing in utility, earthwork, and other heavy civil construction is seeking to hire a Staff Accountant. Our clients include Federal, State, and local government agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Colorado Department of Transportation, the City of Thornton, and Boulder County, as well as private developers. We are Denver-based with operations throughout Colorado and occasional projects throughout the West.

Base pay range: $70,000.00/hr - $75,000.00/hr

• Coordinating accounting functions and programs.
• Maintaining and reconciling balance sheet and general ledger accounts.
• Assisting with annual audit preparations.
• Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of non‑compliance.
• Preparing federal, state, local, and special tax returns.
• Contributing to the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures.
• Support CFO, Controller, and other department personnel with a variety of accounting tasks including transactional processing (revenue entries, cost of sales, recording deposits, etc.).
• Reconcile bank accounts monthly, verify deposits, and address any discrepancies.
• Prepare recurring and adjusting journal entries.
• Actively participate in the monthly financial close process and ensure work is completed in accordance with closing schedule.
• Assist in payroll and quarterly payroll tax schedules/returns.
• Maintain fixed assets and associated depreciation schedules.
• Effectively communicate with peers, customers, leadership, and division personnel to facilitate informed decision making.
• Other projects as assigned to meet company needs.

• Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
• 1‑2+ years of accounting experience.
• Working knowledge of GAAP.
• Strong financial analysis skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Strong organizational and stress management skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
• Ability to work with little to no supervision.
• Must be physically present in the office daily. This is not a remote position.
