Position: Senior Accountant (Tax Compliance) - Denver, CO

Senior Accountant

Location: Denver, CO (fully onsite to start, then 3 days in office / 2 remote)

Base pay range: $75,000.00/yr - $/yr

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and forward-thinking Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of their rapidly growing company. In this role, you will manage a wide range of accounting activities, including expense tracking, vendor payments, customer cash application, financial reporting, financial analysis, payroll support, and month‑end close procedures. You will also maintain and update key financial documents and perform general financial analyses to support management decision‑making.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and accurate posting of bank transactions to the appropriate GL accounts.
  • Assist with the accounts payable process, including W‑9 collection, invoice review, approval workflow, check runs, vendor payments, and wire transfers.
  • Record customer deposits and apply cash receipts to open invoices accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and corporate credit card statements.
  • Process employee expense reports and reimbursement requests in accordance with company policies.
  • Maintain and update fixed asset records, including asset additions, disposals, and depreciation schedules.
  • Ensure all monthly financial transactions are recorded completely, accurately, and within required deadlines.
  • Manage the month‑end close process, preparing adjusting and recurring journal entries in accordance with US GAAP (e.g., accrued liabilities, amortization, depreciation, ROU asset amortization, revenue recognition, allowance adjustments, impairment).
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations supported by detailed documentation and analysis for each account.
  • Review and support the complexities of the Avalara sales tax process.
  • Assist with corporate compliance matters, such as business registrations and license renewals.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and provide necessary documentation to support financial audits.
  • Respond to information requests from tax consultants regarding corporate income tax returns.
  • Assist in the development, enhancement, and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and document accounting workflows.
  • Perform special projects and ad‑hoc financial analyses as assigned by management.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or high school diploma with 5+ years of accounting experience (required).
    or 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience; public accounting background preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and standard accounting practices, with proven ability to perform account reconciliations, identify discrepancies, and solve issues.
  • State‑by‑state tax compliance experience is required.
  • Experience with Avalara accounting system is required.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems such as Quick Books, Net Suite, SAP, Cin7, , and Expensify or similar platforms is nice to have.
  • Working knowledge of tax and corporate compliance is an advantage (e.g., corporate registration renewals, corporate income tax, sales and use tax, Pact Act compliance).
  • Advanced analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated, capable of working independently, and effective in collaborative team settings.
  • Passion for the accounting profession, with a focus on process improvement and efficiency.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace.
  • Must be able to pass a background and credit check.
