STATEMENT OF DUTIESSummary of Job Classification:
Provides entry level case processing assistance and customer service via counter, telephone, and electronic means. Creates new cases, processes pleadings, accepts payments, and related work. Serves in a training capacity in all areas of more advanced responsibilities.
The Court of Appeals is the state’s intermediate appellate court and serves the entire state of Colorado. The Court has 22 judges and 84 staff members. The mission of the Court of Appeals is to provide the citizens of Colorado with clear, impartial, and timely resolutions of appealed orders and judgments as provided by law.
We are looking for one Judicial Clerk to work in the Court of Appeals Clerks office on a team of 6 staff. This position will be responsible for covering the front counter of the clerk’s office and helping litigants and the public who come into the building, along with answering emails and phone calls. This position will also review the mail received by the Court and process filings.
Successful candidates will have strong customer service skills. This position requires attention to detail and accuracy. Court of Appeals Judicial Clerks are directly supervised by the Clerk’s Office Supervisor.

- Assists customers with paperwork, answers questions, reviews court forms for completeness, and assigns case numbers.
- Receives and processes incoming correspondence via email, mail, e-filing, and in-person filings, and distribution.
- Directs customers to appropriate services such as legal clinics, self-help information and specialists, Supreme Court and local libraries, the bar association, or family court facilitators.
- Maintains case documentation and updates case management system, including adding case information and documentation to case management system, updating case information, updating contact information, processing bond forfeitures, and entering transcript requests. Adheres to data integrity and timelines per applicable laws and regulations.
- Transfers information from law enforcement tickets or information filed into the case management system.
- Manages scheduling for time sensitive cases, such as cases requesting protection orders or other emergency matters. Ensures court-scheduled events and review dates are entered in every case.
- Receives and processes referring court records from the trial court. Maintains the referring court record server. Transmits records to litigants. Processes and returns records upon mandate.
- Accepts and processes payments via cash, check, and credit card for court fines, fees, filing fees, and bonds. Reconciles cash drawer and income daily and prepares the daily deposit.
