Overview
Major League Baseball (MLB) will operate the Automated Ball-Strike System ("ABS") in all Spring Training and MLB ballparks for the 2026 season. The ABS Operator will collect critical data to support the system’s performance and ensure its smooth operation.
The ABS Operator will work from the press box and use a simple web application on an MLB-supplied device connected via Ethernet.
Key data points to be tracked and entered for each game include:
- Slow or delayed data
- Pitch location issues
This is a seasonal role that requires regular onsite attendance at the ballpark. MLB does not provide relocation assistance, and you will be responsible for transportation needs. Please apply for positions in the market where you are currently located.
Responsibilities- Arriving two hours before first pitch to check in with remote MLB support staff.
- Performing pre‑game equipment checks and troubleshooting any system issues.
- Operating the ABS application, screening data, and playing out challenge videos.
- Accurately entering data throughout the game.
- Communicating with MLB staff to ensure data accuracy.
- Submitting a detailed post‑game report.
- Communicating with game‑night support staff to report any issues or feedback.
- Engaging in routine correspondence via email, Slack, or text to stay current with schedules, assignments, and information.
- Handling other game‑day responsibilities as determined by your supervisor.
- Routine day‑to‑day correspondence via email, Slack, voice call and/or text message, to keep current with coverage schedules and other scheduled assignments.
- Other game‑day responsibilities during Spring Training, the regular season and/or Postseason as determined by Data Operations supervisor(s).
- Exceptional and demonstrable knowledge of baseball and its rules.
- Strong computer proficiency with Windows OS and the ability to quickly learn new software.
- Previous experience with a professional or college sports team, particularly in a press box setting.
- Regular availability to attend games on weekdays, nights, and weekends.
- The ability to troubleshoot equipment and perform under pressure.
- A "team player" attitude, including a willingness to learn from mistakes and collaborate with support staff.
- Professionalism, reliability, and dedication. This is a high‑profile opportunity that requires exceptional focus.
New ABS Operators will complete a correspondence and training program before working any games independently.
Pay Range$25.00 - $27.50 per hour. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including your work experience, education, skills, and any other aspect MLB considers relevant to the hiring decision.
