Overview

Dietzler Construction is looking for an experienced Preconstruction and Estimating Manager with significant past experience in heavy civil construction projects focused on structural concrete work and/or water control structures. This position can be based out of Dietzler’s Denver or Berthoud, Colorado offices and will report to the Vice President of Construction.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Responsible for managing projects from the proposal/estimating phase through construction start.
  • Oversee estimating staff, including delegation of tasks and work product oversight.
  • Review project plans and specifications to firmly understand project scope, contractor requirements and develop a preliminary schedule with proposed means and methods.
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates in conjunction with the estimating team. Must be able to present projects and proposed estimates to executive management clearly and succinctly.
  • Must be able to identify project risks, flag them for executive management and discuss risk management solutions.
  • Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and reasonable production rates.
  • Past experience managing heavy civil projects, costs and budget.
  • Prepare bid submittals, proposals and qualification responses for both public and private projects.
  • Assist in project setup after award, working with the project management staff to develop a detailed master CPM schedule, logistics and safety plans.
  • Provide leadership, establish and maintain an effective working relationship with internal and external partners.
  • Identify project opportunities that fit the Company’s market, attend pre-bid meetings, pre-construction meetings, and weekly coordination meetings with subcontractors, owners, engineers and consultants as required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend design drawings for heavy civil projects, contracts, purchase agreements, specifications, contract details for the project, coordinating subcontractor and supplier scope.
  • Determine site logistics for site access, temporary roads, fencing, etc. and arrange temporary services, primary surveying and horizontal control.
  • Determine methods of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment, temporary power sources, work schedules and document actual hours worked.
  • Identify talent needs, interview and help make employment decisions on site crews.
  • Assist with project management task on an as needed basis.
  • Other duties that may be assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3-8 years of civil construction management or estimating experience, preferably on structures, earthwork, wet utilities, bridge and dam construction.
  • Supervision and/or craft supervision experience on heavy civil construction projects, may be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction technology, equipment and methods; craft agreements, jurisdiction and negotiations; engineering, cost control schedules and safety.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and supervisory skills, including existing relationships with vendors and customers in the industry and region.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw solid conclusions.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Four‑year construction management/engineering degree or equivalent.
Pay
  • $110K-$140K/yr DOE
