The Rigging Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, supervision, and safety of all rigging operations across multiple projects. This role oversees rigging crews, foremen, and subcontractors while ensuring all lifts and moves are executed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company standards, client requirements, and applicable regulations.
The Rigging Manager serves as the technical authority and operational leader for all rigging activities, including heavy equipment moves, machinery installation, data center equipment handling, and specialty lifts.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership
- Plan, coordinate, and manage all rigging operations from pre-job planning through project closeout
- Review scopes of work, lift plans, rigging studies, and method statements
- Assign crews, equipment, and resources to meet project schedules and budgets
- Support field supervisors and foremen with technical guidance and decision-making
- Coordinate with cranes, trucking, logistics, and storage operations
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and client-specific requirements
- Lead Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and pre-task planning
- Conduct site safety audits and jobsite observations
- Ensure all rigging gear is properly inspected, certified, and documented
- Stop work authority for unsafe conditions or practices
Crew Management
- Directly manage rigging foremen, lead riggers, and field crews
- Mentor and develop crew members through training and hands-on leadership
- Participate in hiring, performance reviews, promotions, and disciplinary actions
- Ensure crews are properly trained and certified (OSHA, rigging, forklifts, aerial lifts, etc.)
Project Coordination
- Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and Clients
- Attend coordination meetings, pre-construction meetings, and site walk-throughs
- Identify risks, constraints, and constructability concerns early
- Assist with change orders, RFIs, and scope clarifications
Equipment & Asset Management
- Oversee selection and use of rigging equipment, forklifts, skates, gantries, and specialty tools
- Coordinate maintenance, inspections, and certifications
- Ensure proper load ratings, configurations, and lift execution
Financial & Scheduling Oversight
- Support project budgets, labor forecasts, and equipment utilization
- Monitor productivity and crew efficiency
- Minimize downtime, rework, and cost overruns
- 10+ years of hands-on rigging experience in industrial or commercial environments
- 5+ years in a supervisory or management role (Foreman, Superintendent, Manager)
- Extensive knowledge of:
- Heavy rigging methods
- Machinery moving
- Data center equipment handling (UPS, switch gear, generators, chillers, IT racks)
- Strong understanding of load calculations, center of gravity, and lift planning
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, lift plans, and engineered rigging studies
- OSHA 30 (Required)
- Qualified Rigger / Signal Person
- Forklift & Telehandler Certification
- Mobile Crane Signal Person (Preferred)
- NCCCO or equivalent rigging credentials (Preferred)
- First Aid / CPR (Preferred)
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- High level of safety awareness and accountability
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Calm decision-making under pressure
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Professional demeanor with clients and general contractors
- Ability to work in industrial environments and active construction sites
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs when required
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Willingness to travel and work extended hours as projects require
