The Structural Demolition Operator performs complex demolition activities using excavators and specialized demolition equipment to safely dismantle, process, and remove structural components from large commercial, industrial, and other complex structures. This position requires demonstrated structural demolition experience---not solely general excavation, earthwork, or equipment operation.

The Structural Demolition Operator must understand how equipment selection, attachment use, machine positioning, demolition sequencing, structural conditions, exclusion zones, and material behavior interact during demolition. Successful candidates demonstrate strong judgment, precision, situational awareness, and the ability to execute established demolition means and methods without compromising structural stability, personnel safety, equipment safety, or surrounding property.

TOTAL COMPENSATION

$26.83 to $50.63 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate excavators and other heavy equipment to perform structural and heavy demolition of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, foundations, elevated components, and other structural materials.
  • Use demolition-specific attachments such as hydraulic breakers, concrete processors, pulverizers, grapples, steel shears, multi-processors, buckets, and other attachments based on equipment qualifications and project requirements.
  • Execute controlled structural demolition and dismantling activities in accordance with established sequencing, engineered requirements, means and methods, exclusion zones, and project plans.
  • Position and operate equipment to maintain safe working distances, appropriate working radius, machine stability, visibility, escape paths, and control of falling or processed material.
  • Identify structural members, connections, bracing, load-bearing components, and other conditions that influence demolition sequencing and structural behavior.
  • Perform controlled removal and processing of structural steel, concrete, masonry, foundations, and other demolition materials while protecting designated structures, equipment, utilities, and adjacent property.
  • Coordinate closely with spotters, Laborers, Foremen, rigging personnel, truck drivers, and other equipment Operators during demolition and material-processing activities.
  • Monitor the structure continuously for movement, instability, unexpected material behavior, changing conditions, or deviations from the planned demolition sequence.
  • Stop operations immediately when structural conditions, utilities, equipment conditions, exclusion zones, personnel locations, or other hazards make continued operation unsafe.
  • Perform required equipment inspections and recognize conditions affecting machine stability, hydraulic systems, attachments, tracks, guarding, and safe operation.
  • Support efficient material segregation, sizing, loading, recycling, salvage, and debris management.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety requirements and demolition-specific procedures throughout all operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated experience operating heavy equipment in structural, heavy commercial, industrial, or large-scale demolition environments required.
  • Previous equipment-operation experience limited primarily to excavation, grading, earthwork, utilities, or general civil construction does not by itself meet the structural demolition experience requirement.
  • Experience demolishing structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, elevated structural components, or similarly complex structures strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience operating excavators with demolition-specific attachments such as steel shears, concrete processors, pulverizers, hydraulic breakers, grapples, or comparable attachments strongly preferred.
  • Experience with controlled structural dismantling, steel processing, concrete processing, rigging-supported demolition, or other complex structural removal preferred.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Applicable equipment, fall protection,…
