Role

Associate Editors work closely with the Editor-in-Chief in helping to steer and manage the AORN Journal, playing an active role in journal development. The key responsibility as an Associate Editor will be managing the lifecycle of a paper through the peer review process. This includes:

  • Identifying suitable peer reviewers, reviewing peer reviewers’ comments, acting as a reviewer when needed and providing feedback to authors, overseeing an effective, ethical and timely peer review process
  • Making recommendation decisions of manuscripts that incorporate all necessary feedback from other editors and peer reviewers.
  • Ensuring the quality and soundness of articles published in the journal, by considering their compliance with ethical standards of scientific research, the relevance of the articles to the journal’s aim and scope, and the accurate use of research methods
  • Inviting appropriate contributions
  • Promoting the journal within relevant networks
