The number of these temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions varies from semester to semester, depending on the needs of the program. About the Department of World LanguagesThe department offers courses in eight languages:
American Sign Language, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Programs include majors in French and Spanish; minors in French, Japanese, and Spanish; certificates in Spanish Translation and Translation Studies; and digital badges in American Sign Language and Professional Spanish Competency. The teaching team consists of about fifteen full-time faculty members and several affiliate instructors. Courses align with ACTFL standards and MSU Denver’s strategic goals.
Summary
The Department of World Languages invites applications for future part-time affiliate faculty teaching positions.
ResponsibilitiesAn affiliate faculty member may:
- Teach assigned classes in person or online and deliver course content to students
- Prepare course materials and lesson plans
- Grade student work and provide timely, robust feedback
- Address student questions in accordance with university, college/school, and department policies
- Provide online or in-person academic support as needed for the teaching assignment
- Ensure instruction aligns with the course syllabus learning objectives and, if required, with department course coordination policies
- Comply with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies
The ability to adapt and learn new modes of instruction is encouraged. Candidates should be sensitive to the diverse educational needs of a student population.
Required QualificationsMaster’s Degree in the target language with concentration in one or more of the following areas:
Language Acquisition, Linguistics, Literature, Cultural Studies, Translation or related fields.
- Doctorate in the target language with concentration in one or more of the listed areas
- Teaching experience in the target language
Affiliate faculty are part-time, at-will employees hired to teach on a per-credit-hour basis for specific classes, usually on a semester-by-semester basis. They are not eligible for benefits under the university’s benefits program. Teaching assignments depend on budget and enrollment. Qualified candidates will be expected to teach in person on campus upon hire.
Salary for AnnouncementThe final salary is based on the number of credit hours assigned at a rate determined by university policy.
