Department Information

Purpose/

Summary:

This is a 12‑month faculty position. Applications received by December 31, 2025, will receive priority consideration, but the position will remain open until filled.

Description of Job

Provides high‑quality for‑credit instruction, non‑credit training and program support to meet students, community and business needs. Assists Senior Welding Trainer with instruction, program coordination and development, shop‑related activities in areas such as material/metal processing, supply management, data collection, safe work practice demonstration, preventative maintenance, lab area cleaning and equipment use.

General Summary

Allows for teaching of assigned for‑credit and non‑credit classes, conduct student assessments, maintain accurate records, provide a safe learning environment, manage metal processing, coordinate material handling, maintain lab equipment, develop inventory and supply management, and support other instructors as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Effectively prepares and teaches assigned for‑credit and non‑credit classes in accordance with scheduled times and places.
  • Conducts student assessments in accordance with established criteria.
  • Maintains accurate student records in accordance with client requirements and college policies.
  • Provides a safe and secure learning environment.
  • Performs metal, raw material, or other material processing as needed.
  • Co‑ordinates material handling responsibilities with AMC Lab Coordinator.
  • Clears and maintains lab area equipment (e.g., changing belt grinder belts, band saw blades, cleaning filtration units).
  • Develops inventory, supply management and data collection.
  • Supports other instructors as needed.
  • Co‑ordinates with Senior Welding Trainer to develop course materials.
  • Identifies and promotes opportunities for process improvement and quality control/assurance.
  • Co‑ordinates with Director to develop standards for competency‑based education modules and Credit for Prior Learning.
  • Co‑ordinates with AMC Lab Coordinator and Director to improve workflow processes, inventory control and material preparation.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Abides by college and board policies.
  • Builds and maintains positive, productive and professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • Stays current with discipline content, industry standards, technology innovations, instructional/learning strategies.
  • Secures and maintains required credentials and accreditations as necessary.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities.

Education (Minimum/Required)

Thorough training in welding techniques and methodology.

Experience (Minimum/Required)
  • At least three years of experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Oxy‑fuel cutting (OFC), Oxy‑acetylene Welding (OAW), Plasma Arc Cutting (PAC), Carbon Arc Cutting with Air (CAC‑A), blueprint reading and OSHA regulations.
  • Experience welding and cutting a variety of materials including steel, stainless steel and aluminum in various gauge of plate and schedule pipe.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of welding concepts and techniques.
  • Blueprint reading skills.
  • Ability to use Excel, PowerPoint and Word to create data collection tools, grade books, presentations and documents.
  • Use of computers and tablets in instruction delivery, course material development and data collection.
  • Strong teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
Licensure/Certification
  • Within one year of hire:
    Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification or Certified Welding Educator (CWE);
    Forklift operation certification.
