The School of Education & Human Development (SEHD) at the University of Colorado Denver invites applications for a full‑time teacher educator position in the ASPIRE to Teach Alternative Teacher Licensure Program. Applicants must have at least five years of demonstrated expertise in a public K‑12 setting as a special education teacher or related personnel, with knowledge of Colorado special education law and experience with students of diverse learning needs.
Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching (80%)
- Support and mentor a caseload of special education candidates by providing timely feedback on online learning modules, video coaching portal submissions, and 1:1 monthly video conference meetings.
- Track and report candidate program and teacher development progress.
- Contribute expertise related to ASPIRE program philosophical frameworks.
- Design and facilitate candidate learning within authentic remote Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Communicate regularly with candidates regarding progress in the classroom and ASPIRE program.
ALI Team and Collective Program Work (20%)
- Provide ongoing support to other ALIs by sharing resources, tools, and best practices.
- Collaborate on interdependent team tasks and contribute to program and curriculum development.
- Assume program leadership roles as needed.
- Engage in program evaluation activities and attend ASPIRE team meetings.
- Work collaboratively with faculty and staff in the main SEHD for resource sharing.
Instructor
- Master's degree in education, special education, or related field.
- At least 3 years of demonstrated expertise as a special education teacher.
- Experience in a teacher education/development role in higher education or K‑12 education, including coaching teachers in the field.
Sr. Instructor
- Doctoral degree in education, special education, or related field.
- At least 3 years of demonstrated expertise as a special education teacher.
- Experience in a teacher education/development role in higher education or K‑12 education, including coaching teachers in the field.
- Five or more years in a K‑12 school setting as a special education teacher, preferably with culturally and/or linguistically diverse students.
- Familiarity with Colorado curriculum standards and Teacher Quality Standards.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal alternative license policy.
- Experience working with ASPIRE to Teach (as a candidate or contract employee).
- Expertise in remote learning environments, instruction delivery, and facilitation of professional learning communities.
- Commitment to a socially just and equitable approach to education.
- Self‑directed, independent work with initiative.
- Strong empathetic, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
- Knowledge of adult learning theory.
- Excellent written and virtual communication skills.
- Ability to allocate time and cognitive resources efficiently.
