GENERAL SUMMARY

CCD seeks innovative leaders who can work collaboratively and energetically to grow their academic pathways. The ideal candidate will understand how to bring various stakeholders in the community, particularly employers, more closely into planning and implementing new programs and improving existing programs, including Career & Technical Education (CTE) programs. The dean must be able to build strong working relationships within the college with other deans, faculty, and personnel across the college.

The dean is dedicated to student success, fosters strong pathways efforts to create a sense of belonging and supports college student resources.

Under the direction of the Provost, the Dean of Instruction, Social & Behavioral Sciences and Public Safety & Legal Services pathways (SBS and PSLS) will provide academic and administrative oversight of SBS and PSLS programming by driving the strategic planning, academic leadership, and curriculum development process to ensure alignment with overall college strategic goals, academic and operational goals and objectives, and student success.

The successful candidate will be equity focused, have a strong demonstrated knowledge of academic administration strategies, theories, and best practices related to SBS and PSLS programs, and be able to build effective relationships with faculty while leading with transparency.

The Dean of Instruction serves on the Provost’s academic leadership team; manages the administrative functions of, and provides instructional leadership for, the Social & Behavioral Science and Public Safety & Legal Services pathways, including supervision of department chairs, full-time faculty, and office staff; oversees fiscal and budgetary management of the pathways; provides leadership for the pathways to participate in the achievement of CCD goals;

represents the pathways and CCD to postsecondary partners, industry, and community partners; and fosters relationships that contribute to the economic and educational vitality of students, faculty, employers, and other stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities

PRIMARY DUTIES

Educational Leadership and Management

  • Responsible for improving the quality of life and the economic well-being of our citizens and communities by providing access to a quality learning environment and fostering high levels of access and success for all students.
  • Provide vision and leadership, proactive advocacy, and administrative support for faculty and staff within the pathway units.
  • Collaborate with other units of the college, industry partners, and high schools to help implement the strategic plan and fulfill annual priorities that ensure CCD students attain their educational and employment goals.
  • Provide leadership in development and use of effective teaching and learning strategies and outcome assessment tools.
  • Support faculty through program reviews, course and program development, catalog content, scheduling of classes, articulation and transferability of programs, and revision or closure of programs.
  • Create and evaluate current and future programming based on market labor data and emerging workforce needs and facilitate the development process.
  • Secure and manage grants to support the pathways’ and college’s initiatives.
  • Analyze public policy and applicable rules and regulations to ensure programs’ compliance with professional and accreditation standards.
