Lead Teacher - Early Childhood Education Center

Lead Teacher position has a unique schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30am – 4:00pm. Children attend school Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 3:30pm, with Friday designated for teacher planning and meetings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensures that the family’s voice is heard and their ideas play a prominent role in programming.
  • Plans and implements high‑quality, trauma‑informed, large group and individualized lessons that align with Head Start, CLASS, and TSG performance standards.
  • Organizes the classroom environment to support top ECERS‑R and CLASS ratings and creates a welcoming, warm environment for all students and families.
  • Utilizes lessons and studies from the Creative Curriculum and Conscious Discipline to guide children’s education.
  • Engages in consistent data gathering, documentation, assessment, and analysis of student performance. Plans lessons to support growth in all areas and maintains a portfolio of children’s growth using the Teaching Strategies Gold platform.
  • Conducts two home visits and at least two family conferences each year to build relationships and help guardians learn they are the child’s first teacher.
  • Ensures children with disabilities are identified early and served in an inclusive environment.
  • Discusses children’s ongoing development in collaboration with the Education Coordinator, School Nurse, Mental Health and Developmental consultants, and documents referrals as needed.
  • Maintains accurate records of students’ daily and hourly attendance and meal counts.
  • Aids in the organization and maintenance of the classroom, kitchen, and related materials.
  • Creates and maintains a predictable schedule and routine, arriving on time and minimizing absences.
  • Maintains classroom sanitation practices in accordance with licensing and best practices.
  • Attends orientations, trainings, staff meetings, community meetings, and workshops as required, and may provide training and mentorship to team members and community stakeholders.
  • Completes a minimum of 15 credit hours of continued education per licensing requirements.
  • Performs all duties in a professional manner, adhering to the NAEYC Code of Ethics and maintaining confidentiality of all information.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field; or an Associate’s degree in the same area with two years of related experience and a verifiable eligibility letter.
  • Two years of teaching experience in a classroom environment with a verifiable eligibility letter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish).
  • Previous Lead Teacher experience.
  • Experience with Teaching Strategies Gold, CLASS, ECERS‑R, Trauma‑Informed care, and the Creative Curriculum.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication with families, coworkers, consultants, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer and tablet skills for data entry and documentation.
  • Knowledge of child development.
  • Proficiency with standard classroom office technology (iPad, copier, computer).
Working Conditions and

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, walking, squatting, bending, sitting on the floor, running, lifting, and reaching.
  • Constant movement for up to 6 hours daily.
  • Acoustic noise typical of classroom and outdoor play areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions.
  • Emotional/mental stability and ability to supervise students in care.
