Early Career Mechanical Engineer – Buildings
WSP is searching for an Early Career Mechanical Engineer in our Denver, CO office. The role involves local technical assistance for the design, development, building, testing, and inspection of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in both the public and private sector. Tasks may include research, design concept development, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems and equipment.

- Assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, and reports to support project development, design, and construction.
- Perform basic mechanical engineering tasks related to research and inspections of site conditions, equipment, and mechanical systems to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
- Provide entry‑level technical assistance on design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to support proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems.
- Verify site characteristics and offer technical guidance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
- Generate accurate documentation and specifications using electronic systems, drawings, and field logs.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site‑specific procedures, including location data, documentation, and surveys.
- Complete training on assigned tasks and exercise responsible, ethical decision‑making regarding company resources.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- 0–1 years of relevant post‑education experience.
- Excellent research skills and analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with design/build processes and mechanical system codes and regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
- Self‑leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and as part of a team.
- Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Knowledge of discipline‑specific design software (e.g., AutoCAD, CAM).
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with WSP’s health, safety, and anti‑harassment policies.
- Ability to accommodate schedules that may extend beyond a typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Engineer in Training certification.
- Prior internship related to the degree and discipline.
- Membership or active participation in local professional practice organizations.

CompensationExpected Salary (Colorado): $58,200 – $87,300.
