Flow.action#!/pslf/launch Work Unit
The work unit exists to prevent radiation injury to persons and contamination of the environment by regulating the possession, use, handling storage, transportation and disposal of radioactive materials. This is accomplished by issuing radioactive materials licenses and conducting compliance activities. Natural occurrences of radioactive materials in the environment are investigated for possible health risks to populations and to determine if regulatory control of the materials for protection of citizens is warranted.
The PositionThis position exists to review all types of radioactive materials license applications - new, renewal, amend, and terminate; send requests for information when required for each type; write specific licenses; answer both written and telephone inquiries about radioactive materials licenses and inspections; perform license compliance inspections; participates in department’s response to incidents of radioactive materials mistakes and/or accidents. Basic types of licenses will be reviewed and inspected independently.
Supervision will be provided on more complicated types of licenses as needed.
Six (6) years of full-time work experience demonstrating knowledge of and experience with radiation control regulations.
OR
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in health physics, biology, chemistry, geology, environmental science, engineering (chemical, environmental), industrial hygiene, or a related field.
AND
Two (2) years of experience in demonstrating knowledge of and experience with radiation control regulations, or a TENORM program.
OR
Masters from an accredited college or university in health physics, biology, chemistry, geology, environmental science, engineering (chemical, environmental), industrial hygiene, or a related field may substitute for the professional experience on a year-for-year basis. (Substitution)
