The Development Engineer is primarily responsible for new product introduction (NPI) and process development and improvement initiatives. The Development Engineer utilizes internal and external testing capabilities to characterize and optimize process outputs and serves as a subject matter expert for Accu‑Tube’s manufacturing processes.

Job Responsibilities
  • Researches new materials, equipment, and technologies, to improve Accu‑Tube’s capabilities and expand product offerings.
  • Develops manufacturing process flows and costing to aid Sales in completing customer quote requests as well as to facilitate internal cost reduction and quality improvement initiatives.
  • In collaboration with manufacturing technicians, executes engineering trials, customer quick‑turn orders, and first production runs in the engineering development area (Hot Shop).
  • Reviews the output of both Hot Shop and production orders to identify failure modes and potential improvements to processes.
  • Operates the metallurgical lab, performing in‑house mechanical and metallurgical testing, and coordinates external testing when necessary.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for Accu‑Tube’s materials and manufacturing processes.
  • Supports daily operational and engineering activities providing guidance and support in troubleshooting key manufacturing issues as they arise.
  • Interacts directly with customers, serving as an engineering resource for technical discussions.
  • Participates in root cause investigations of internal quality failures and customer complaints.
  • Coordinates with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Operations to execute qualification activities for new products, processes, and equipment.
  • Establishes FMEAs for new processes and products.
  • Executes process characterization studies, DOEs, and other formal engineering trials.
  • Develops project proposals and monitors project execution from the initial conception to final completion.
  • Executes a disciplined approach to product and process development (establishing requirements, success criteria, budget, timeline, etc.).
  • Supports and contributes to safety programs, policies, and initiatives.
Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of Manufacturing/Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 preferred.
Qualifications/Characteristics
  • Prior experience in metal tubing manufacturing preferred.
  • Prior experience in stainless steel metallurgy preferred.
  • Competent in use of ERP systems and office applications.
  • Proficient with basic inspection hand tools.
  • Experience with programming advanced inspection and test equipment (vision systems, universal test machines, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with sample preparation and metallurgical analysis preferred.
  • Understanding of statistical techniques and use of associated software tools such as Minitab.
  • Understanding of fundamental continuous improvement/lean concepts.
  • Clearly communicates status of all assignments to project leader/manager.
  • Maintains project status reports and presents status to management.
  • Works with team members to review their work for technical accuracy.
  • Shares technical knowledge and provides mentorship to other engineers.
  • Communicates technical issues to management.
  • Must work and interact effectively and professionally with and for others throughout various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work in collaborative and independent work situations.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge through self‑directed learning, collaboration with experts and by attending educational workshops.
Working Conditions
  • Indoor production environment, duties performed indoors, adequate lighting and comfortable temperatures.
  • Personal protective equipment including safety glasses and gloves may be required in many areas associated with this position.
  • Works full‑time during standard business hours; periodically may require on‑call availability 24/7, depending on assigned schedule, or as business situations require.
  • Occasional exposure to metals, lubricants, solvents, electrolyte, and other hazardous materials. Exposure to moderate noise and machinery with mechanical moving parts.
  • Travel 25 lbs.
  • Occasionally operates a pallet jack.
  • Frequently move about the production floor and office area.
  • Frequently operates a computer, enters data into systems, verifies information, etc.
  • Sitting for extended periods, utilizes close visual acuity for working with computers, etc.
