Process Engineer, Environmental Engineer
Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Graduate Process Professional to be based in Denver, Colorado. This position is expected to begin in February 2026.
Responsibilities- Create and review process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for pumping and piping systems.
- Perform equipment sizing calculations and specify equipment and instrumentation for new and existing facilities.
- Perform hydraulic calculations to determine pipe sizes, control valve sizing, and pump sizing for water/acid solutions using industry standard software programs in conformance with codes and standards as well as project requirements.
- Develop process deliverables like design criteria, hydraulic simulations, PFDs/P&IDs, material balances, control narratives, and technical memorandums.
- Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, P&IDs, mass balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, datasheets, and general facility layout/arrangements.
- Assemble calculation packages for the sizing of mechanical and process equipment such as pumps, tanks, piping systems, etc.
- Develop reports in Microsoft Word to communicate the technical results of these calculations, including summaries, figures, tables, methodologies, and explanations of significant calculations.
- Collaborate with project teams including project managers, contractors, vendors, and a multi-discipline team to create engineered designs from these calculations, studies and analysis into project-specific designs.
- Participate in multi-discipline safety reviews (HAZOPs/PHAs).
- Ensure the required services meet project requirements on time and within budget.
- Work during normal operating hours to collaborate with the project team and complete work within given deadlines.
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field + none or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
- Due to the nature of work, US Citizenship is required.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices.
- Passing score on the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, with Engineer in Training (EIT) credential or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Proficiency in fluid dynamic simulation software (e.g., Fathom) and other relevant process analysis software experience is a bonus.
- Working knowledge of industry standards and practices related to process design and safety.
- Experience in a mechanical engineering or construction related industry.
- The successful candidate will be working with colleagues spread among multiple satellite office locations, so ideal candidates will have:

- Strong Microsoft skills in Windows, Office 365, and SharePoint.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, time management, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly to various project team members.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects.
- Be willing to travel for as-built efforts and site walkdowns (up to 25%).
