Mechanical Engineer – Denver, CO

Job Description

WSP is searching for a Mechanical Engineer for our Denver, CO office. The role is part of the Property and Buildings Team, focused on delivering high‑quality mechanical systems for public and private sector projects. Responsibilities include design, testing, installation, and operation of heating, cooling, ventilation, hydronic, and plumbing systems.

Responsibilities
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from site surveys, blueprints, and technical drawings for project development and construction.
  • Conduct research and inspections of site conditions and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules and standards.
  • Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, and load calculations to design future‑ready mechanical systems.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams to execute project work, perform cost calculations, and ensure compliance with specifications and permits.
  • Prepare visualizations such as tables, charts, and technical drawings for data interpretation and presentation.
  • Maintain quality control standards for accurate measurements, calculations, and reporting.
  • Assist with scoping small‑to‑medium projects and prepare technical reports and presentations to address design and construction issues.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys to support design and construction decisions.
  • Assist with the analysis and interpretation of field data and develop action plans for low‑to‑mid level risk mitigation activities.
  • Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineers on building and infrastructure projects with federal, state, and local authorities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant post‑education experience in mechanical design and building and infrastructure planning.
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, and design/build application.
  • Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant mechanical system laws, codes, regulations, and compliance practices.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with engineering and non‑engineering audiences.
  • Self‑leadership, attention to detail, results orientation, and multitasking in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and work independently while complying with company policies.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with discipline‑specific design software (AutoCAD, CAM).
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, and statistical analysis.
  • Proven record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project‑specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Essential Professional Licensure/Certification.
  • Prior design experience in Healthcare and/or Science & Technology sector.
  • Experience with Revit.
  • Active membership in local professional practice organizations.
