The Role

The Field/Laboratory Technician will provide construction quality assurance/quality control (CQA/CQ) for earthworks testing and geosynthetics installation.

Responsibilities
  • Adhere to all company and client safety requirements.
  • Perform field CQA/QC observation and testing.
  • Perform geotechnical laboratory testing: soil/aggregate sampling and processing, grain size, Atterberg limits, specific gravity, compaction tests (Proctors), hydrometer analysis, hydraulic conductivity (permeability).
  • Perform concrete testing.
  • Interact onsite with clients, contractors, and engineers.
  • Oversee CQA/QC field and laboratory team members.
  • Provide training to CQA/QC and laboratory team members.
  • Schedule and coordinate CQA/QC activity to meet project technical specifications.
  • Issue and track surveillance and non‑conformity reports.
Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • 10–15 years of experience in field construction materials testing CQA/QC, specifically soils testing, liner CQA, and laboratory testing.
  • Basic to intermediate math and writing skills.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work weekends, as required.
  • Ability to travel and work out of town for extended periods, as required.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move more than 100 pounds, with assistance.
  • Ability to spend majority of time walking and inspecting for multiple days.
Work Environment

Work performed in field setting and geotechnical soils laboratory; may be exposed to varying ambient conditions. Adherence to safety standards including MSHA and OSHA is mandatory.

Compensation

Annual compensation range: $24.00 to $40.00 an hour, dependent upon experience level. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, education, and skill level.
