The company has built its own Remote Operations Center (ROC) to monitor, operate and control its generation assets. As an Operator of the ROC, you will have full responsibility for operating and monitoring Onward Energy’s generation fleet. The goal of this position is to ensure safe operations, superior customer service, and high levels of generator efficiency. You will report to the Manager of ROC Operations and work within a team of ROC Operators maintaining continuous 24/7 monitoring and control of company assets.
Responsibilities- Responsible for the day‑to‑day operations of a growing fleet of generation assets.
- Ensure SCADA connectivity, alarm response and communication capabilities.
- Coordinate curtailment procedures, call‑out processes and emergency action plan adherence.
- Complete required notifications to various entities (Reliability Coordinator, Balancing Authority, Transmission Operator, Scheduling Coordinators).
- Coordinate plant operating parameters as directed by the Balancing Authority, Transmission Operator and Operations Management.
- Dispatch field O&M personnel for troubleshooting support and outage scheduling.
- Assist with the development of operating procedures.
- Operate within the established regulatory compliance requirements.
- Maintain NERC certification and other certifications as needed.
- Complete Operator Log entries of all real‑time events, Operating Instructions and other pertinent information.
- Submit proper outage notifications.
- Ensure proper communication(s) are maintained in the ROC.
- Attend and participate in ROC safety meetings.
- Perform switching during normal and emergency situations.
- Attain NERC, PJM, ERCOT System Operator certifications.
- Maintain NERC and other regional training CEHs.
- Lead Operator duties: point of contact during an emergency event, create and approve switching requests, point of contact for any special/new project in the ROC, fill‑in for the ROC Manager during any type of absence, train and qualify ROC Operator I and II’s.
- Five years or more of experience in utility‑scale power production or energy management.
- Experience working in multiple ISOs (CAISO, MISO, ERCOT, SPP, and PJM).
- Preference to current NERC Certified Operators (RC, TO, BIT or BI), PJM Generator Operators or ERCOT certificates.
- High attention to detail and the ability to work proactively and productively without direct supervision.
- Minimum of five years of experience working with SCADA systems (wind, solar, substation, data aggregation/historian platforms); experience with Ignition is preferred.
- Experience communicating with Balancing Authorities, Transmission Operators, Reliability Coordinators, and/or Scheduling Entities.
- Experience, knowledge and familiarity with local area networks, wide area networks, and ISP networks.
- Knowledge and understanding of cybersecurity principles and policies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Work schedule requires 24/7/365 shift rotation to ensure continuous 24/7/365 coverage.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel; experience with formulas, macros and pivot tables.
- Ability to stand, walk, talk, hear, and have good visual acuity.
