Summary

The Senior Controls Engineer supports the Electrical Engineering team by designing, developing, and improving PLC-controlled machinery and systems for the hardscape and masonry industries. This role provides leadership in system design, electrical panel development, and controls innovation, with a strong focus on Allen Bradley PLCs and HMIs.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead independent system development projects and provide technical guidance.
  • Act as a project lead and mentor for electrical engineers and assembly staff.
  • Review and create electrical schematics, PLC/HMI programs, and Bills of Materials.
  • Specify and evaluate electrical components, motion control products, and communication networks.
  • Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Troubleshoot equipment operations and networks.
  • Represent Electrical Engineering in interdepartmental meetings when the EE Manager is unavailable.
  • Ensure adherence to PLC and HMI standards while maintaining Master Files.
  • Monitor electrical engineering hours, component obsolescence, and redline updates.
  • Provide technical leadership in product innovation, customer communication, and process improvements.
  • Travel up to 20% to support customer needs.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 10+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Background: Process control experience, workflow planning, and production schedule management across multiple projects.
  • Software Knowledge:
  • PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell/Allen Bradley, RS Logix
    5000, Factory Talk preferred)
  • AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Equipment Knowledge:
  • Rockwell closed-loop VFDs and servo drives
  • PC supervisory controls and process controls experience
  • Skills & Abilities:
  • Strong analytical, project management, and communication skills
  • Ability to mentor, lead, and support teams
  • Strong problem-solving and technical aptitude
  • Collaborative team player with a respectful work style
