Regional Emission Inventory Specialist - PSRS II - HYBRID

Job Summary

The Regional Modeling and Emission Inventory (RMEI) Unit conducts and reviews air quality analyses to meet federal and state requirements. The role focuses on developing the oil and gas emission inventory for Colorado, especially the Denver nonattainment area. Responsibilities include design, development, and evaluation of emission inventory methods; data analysis and processing for regional modeling platforms (CMAQ, CAMx, SMOKE); and providing guidance to staff and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and evaluate emission inventory methods to support rule making and photochemical modeling.
  • Prepare and validate emission inventory data for regional air quality modeling platforms.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret emission inventory data; manage data using MySQL and Microsoft Access.
  • Provide quality assurance for RMEI products and deliver guidance to APCC, EPA, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders during data preparation and modeling for major projects such as SIPs.
  • Attend meetings, serve on task forces, and complete projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Six (6) years of professional experience in atmospheric science, engineering, physics, environmental science, or a closely related field, including two (2) years in preparing and processing emission inventories for regulatory air quality models.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior state service related to the position (required).
  • Experience with emission inventories for regulatory applications (e.g., CMAQ, CAMx).
  • Proficiency with Google and Microsoft applications.
  • Knowledge of EPA regulatory emission models such as MOVES and SMOKE processing.
  • Strong background in scientific programming (FORTRAN, Python), relational databases (MS Access, MySQL, R), GIS, and Linux/Unix.
  • Data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
