SummaryThe Surface Landman is responsible for supporting the acquisition, permitting, and management of surface-related agreements and operations. This role involves securing Surface Use Agreements (SUAs), conducting land title analysis, negotiating basic agreements, and maintaining positive relationships with landowners and regulatory agencies. The Surface Landman works closely with internal teams, ensures compliance with relevant regulations, and helps resolve landowner issues to ensure smooth surface operations.
Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions- Assist in securing Surface Use Agreements (SUAs) and other necessary surface-related agreements with landowners.
- Conduct research using company and public records to identify land ownership and assist in title verification processes.
- Review and analyze land titles to identify discrepancies and work with senior team members to outline corrective actions.
- Help negotiate surface agreements with landowners, draft documentation, and assist in coordinating the review and execution process.
- Review land-related agreements, amendments, deeds, easements, leases, permits, and licenses under the guidance of senior land management staff.
- Collaborate with internal departments (such as legal, operations, and engineering) to help ensure necessary agreements are in place for operational needs.
- Maintain communication with internal teams, landowners, and regulatory agencies to ensure smooth operations and positive working relationships.
- Assist in addressing landowner concerns, help resolve disputes and elevate issues to senior team members when necessary.
- Support the management of encroachments, damage claims, and property damage settlements related to surface operations.
- Help manage notification requirements, including certified USPS mail and hand deliveries to landowners.
- Work alongside field personnel to address landowner concerns and ensure operational efficiency.
- Assist in coordinating with reclamation teams and regulatory bodies to meet environmental and operational standards.

- Bachelor’s degree in Land Resource Management, Business, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in surface land management or a similar role specifically within the oil and gas industry.
- Proficiency in CARTE and ArcGIS software.
